Versatile General surgeon qualified in 1990 with wide experience in General Surgery. Sam is Specialist in advanced keyhole surgery, trained in University hospitals in Cambridge, Birmingham, Nottingham and Plymouth. Sam completed UK Specialist Surgical Training (CCST) in 2006 and became Consultant Surgeon in Portsmouth since 2008. He has been in private practice since 2011 in Spire Portsmouth Hospitals and moved to Nottingham for family reasons in 2016.

He has a long track record of Gallbladder and hernia surgery. Over the years, Sam has developed special expertise in fixing hernia that have failed several repairs in the past. He gets many referrals for this and has excellent results.

Laparoscopic hernia surgery has been Sam's passion for the last 20 years, having done many such operations both in hospital and private practice. He is a keen trainer in keyhole surgery and has trained many colleagues and trainees to perform keyhole hernia surgery.

Sam has a big practice of incisional hernia surgery which he performs both laparoscopically and by open operation.

Sam is Consultant in Kidney Transplantation and Laparoscopic General Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals with base in City Hospital. Kidney transplant and renal failure patients are very complex both medically and surgically. Sam performs major surgery on this group regularly with very good outcomes. Sam's further training is in solid organ transplantation, practicing adult and paediatric kidney transplantation and dialysis surgery in Nottingham University Hospital. Sam is credited with starting and leading laparoscopic kidney donation in Portsmouth in 2009 and training the team. He has featured in several press and television release to promote organ donation and living kidney donation.

Consultant Transplant Surgeon Sam Dutta, who performed the operation on Scott, said: “Friend to friend donations are rare but perhaps not as difficult as people may think. “To donate a kidney to another person you only need to be fit and well and have two good working kidneys. You do not have to be a tissue match or have the same blood group. It is an excellent option when there are no suitable family members to donate a kidney.”

At the lunch, which featured music from the Tadley Concert Brass band, Mr Crace admired the handiwork of his transplant surgeon Sam Dutta carving up a spit-roasted lamb. Mr Dutta, 46, from Fareham, said of Mr Crace: “Having an 83-year-old wanting to donate was incredible.” After months of physical and psychological tests, Mr Dutta conducted a two-hour operation to remove Mr Crace’s kidney.
